The events around the Anglo-Manipur War made headlines in 1891 and came as a shock to the British Raj. Pitting the forces of the then-independent Manipur State against those of the Raj, this short but sharp conflict was a key historical event in the region.
This day-long tour takes in key accessible sites connected to the Anglo-Manipur War both in Imphal and the countryside in Manipur. You get to walk some of the main battlefields – including one where a Victoria Cross was awarded – and see both British and Manipur’s memorials to the war. You also hear how the consequences of the war continue to reverberate in Manipur today.
